• 10 Best Body Creams For Light Skin In Nigeria

    The yearning to get beautiful and healthy-looking skin is one that never wanes. A lot of ladies are constantly on the lookout for the best body creams for light skin in Nigeria. It is so difficult to find the ones that don’t contain a lot of harmful chemicals. Also, there’s the fear of purchasing an imitated body cream for fair skin in Nigeria as there are a whole lot of fake/imitations out there.

    I asked a couple of my fair complexion friends to share the body lotions that have helped that achieve a fair and glowing complexion. These are the top 10 best body lotions for fair skin women living in Nigeria. These lotions are affordable and readily available on most online stores and large supermarkets like JustRite, Shoprite, Prince Ebeano, e.t.c

    What To Look out for when purchasing a body cream for light skin in Nigeria.

    There is a lot to look out for when purchasing a body lotion. As a matter of fact, this relates to every product. I have long learnt the habits of checking the ingredients that make up a product. I equally lookout for expiry dates if there’s any.

    The reason for this is to determine if the product contains harsh chemicals that can ruin your skin.

    Some of the ingredients that are a no-no for body creams for light skin in Nigeria are;

    1. Hydroquinone: An extremely dangerous ingredient that has been banned because of its ability to remove skin layers and kill pores. Using a body cream with Hydroquinoe over time can lead to Skin cancer. Although research is currently on-going to determine usage of hydroquinone in a small percentage. Dermatologists have ruled using hydroquinone in 1-2% as safe. But for those living in Africa, kindly stay away from home-made products containing hydroquinone as most are laced with steroids and mercury.
    2. Mercury: Years back, mercury was an active ingredient in lightening creams as it helps brighten the skin. However, mercury is one of the most dangerous product you should never put on your skin. Mercury has many dangerous side effects such as; kidney damage, skin discolouration, excessive scarring on the skin, and in extreme cases, causing outer layers of the skin to peel while creating a blueish, grey complexion. Apart from the physical effects of using this chemical, mercury can also affect brain functions and impair speech and hearing functions. Prolonged use of products that are laced with mercury has also shown to increase anxiety, depression, psychosis, and brain defects to newborn children during pregnancy.
    3. Parabens

    I will never encourage anyone to bleach their skin as bleaching has several side effects. I believe lighten skin and bleaching skin aren’t the same, the former refers to using ingredients that can help get rid of discolouration, sunburn and give you a healthy, even-toned skin. While the latter refers to the quest to make one’s skin several shades whiter than the original colour.

    Safe skin lightening ingredients

    1. Kojic Acid
    2. Glycolic Acid
    3. Vitamin C
    4. Alpha-arbutin
    5. Liquorice Acid.

    Personally, I have used this lotion and I can tell you it’s amazing. It has a faint fragrance that smells like berries, it contains SPF, which is great especially since we live in Nigeria where the sun is crazy. I stopped using this product for one reason, it wasn’t moisturizing my skin enough but don’t let that deter you, I have a severe dry skin. I tried to search out the ingredients but came across none, even on their own website.
