Is virginity the key to happy marriage?

Being a virgin is a big deal in this part of the world. Being a virgin means you are properly well brought up, means that you possess good morals, means you are not like every other girl,  infact it confers sainthood upon you.  If you are a virgin then you are most definitely a saint: the holiest of holies. This is how you are seen by a lot of people.

Now, getting married a virgin automatically crowns you as a virtuous woman who will get 100% love and dedication from Mr. Husband because “he was the first to hit it”.

Our society expects nothing else but perfection from such marriages and thus, they make it seem like once you marry a virgin,  all the “wahalas” that comes with married life are virtually wiped off your slate. You automatically have a happy marriage because you were a virtuous and well brought up lady. A lot of people have this mindset. and when I watched this video where chigul poured out her heart regarding her failed marriage. I thought to share with you all and get your opinion.

However,  some situations have proven that being a “virgin” is not all it takes to have a successful marriage and Nigerian comedienne Chioma Omeruah popularly known as “Chigul” just revealed that she married a virgin at 33 and still her marriage crashed less than a year after.

This brings me to very vital questions:

    • IS VIRGINITY THE ULTIMATE KEY TO A SUCCESSFUL MARRIAGE?
    • IF YOU MARRY YOUR WIFE AS A VIRGIN, DOES IT CHANGE ANYTHING?
    • IF BEING A VIRGIN IN NIGERIAN SOCIETY CANNOT KEEP YOUR MARRIAGE, THEN WHAT CAN?.
    • GUYS CAN YOU MARRY A VIRGIN?

Virginity is key but not the master key. Add to your Virginity wisdom, virtues, character and many more things.
I have folks from my family and friends who married as a Virgin and are doing well in their marriage.
I can marry a Virgin. In fact, I should but I will never consider marrying someone solely because you have hymen covering your holes btw your thighs. Na!
Virginity is an honour to God and that is huge but it doesn’t guarantee good home. You must be prepared for your marriage. If you are not prepared for marriage then you will fail even if you are ‘Virginer’ than Virgin Mary.

To me, virginity should be a bragging right. Maybe not a public bragging right as it were but really you should be proud if you married a virgin. I don’t subscribe to pulling virgins down because they expect beautiful marriages.

However, being a virgin is not the all in all to having a successful marriage. Marriage comes with a lot of stuff. Mental, emotional, moral and even financial maturity are needed. Marriage is a lot and if you go into marriage as a virgin without equipping yourself with what’s necessary, you might be in for surprises. You can’t be a rude virgin and expect everyone to fall at your feet for example.

Marriages fail for so many reasons. Virginity is therefore not a prerequisite to a superb marriage but I think that it is well enough a bragging right to whoever cares… Your husband maybe, yourself maybe.
