• Always big dreams but no action

Work to make your dreams come true

At the age of 20, I wanted to own a car. That was my big dream but I am 21 and I don’t even own a bike.

I shared this with my friend fortune and she said it was an unrealistic dream. I beg to differ.  If I had learnt how to work towards achieving my big dreams,  I bet I would be writing this post while reclining in my little saloon car. But the reality of it all is the fact that I still have no car.

Work to make your dreams come true

Call this a motivational post, a wake up call post,  a much needed advice or whatever you want…….just don’t dream on after reading this post, take action!.

Most of us are guilty of having big dreams and writing big goals that we never come around to fulfilling.

It’s the first day in December and it’s the best time for a post like this because in a matter of days,  most of us would start writing out our goals for 2018. If I may ask why bother writing goals for 2018 when you didn’t check half of goals for 2017.

I was very good at dreaming and making goals and never doing anything about them until a few months back when I realised that no one can make my dreams come true if I don’t work towards it.

I mean I have had a lot of dreams, goals, aspirations and what have you and most times they stayed in my head.

Some of them I saw as too difficult to become realities but I will never know if that’s true until I give it a try.

Most of us are millionaires in our dreams and paupers in reality.

It’s about time you know that your dream can only be fulfilled if only you want it to.

How I learnt to work to make my dreams come true.

Work to make your dreams come true

Learning that my dreams won’t happen until I work towards them helped me greatly. I began reading books on success and greatness and also listened to Ted talks.

Grit is sticking with your future day in,  day out. Not just for the week, not just for the month but for years. And working really hard to make that future a reality. – Angela Lee Buckworth

Learning about grit through Angela’s Ted talk made me realize that I have been dreaming big without actualizing them because I lacked grit. I lacked courage, I lacked focus.  Because I gave up easily and didn’t fight for my dreams.

Your dreams won’t happen until you make them happen.  Your dreams won’t take shape until you make it into what you want. Your dreams will always remain “dreams” until you make a move.

Slowly, I am working on my dreams and trying to make them a reality. I dream, I make goals and I am sure that I will take action and make sure they go from being dreams to realities.

My blogging bucket list is one of such dreams/goals that I am working towards.

Another was finishing school in flying colours.. I aced that.

Now I look forward to making more goals and working towards them. One way I found that works for me is to actually divide my goals into daily, weekly, monthly and annually. That way I know the deadline for each and fervently work towards it.

Stop dreaming big and letting your dreams go to waste. Make something out of them today!.

Brilliant post. I wanted to be a software engineering consultant at 27. I don’t even want to think about how old I am now.

I still have that dream, I still know it’ll come together. Only difference is, now I’m actively working towards it.

By the way, I want to stop actively working for my income (retire) by age 45. How about that? 🙂

Interesting thoughts you have shared! No one likes un-succeeding. I mean, its so unthinkable, but a lot of times the difference is clear between those succeeding because they’re doing something about what they hope for. I think sometimes we just need to dream big to keep the hope alive, but to do something to keep wealth in reachable terms. The else to this is self is self-deceit.

      Thank you for sharing.

I find the part where you adviced splitting the goals into daily, weekly, monthly and yearly…. Thank you very much…. I am taking steps to becoming better and actualizing my dreams….

Hello Josephine, you are not the only one. After this post was published, several people sent me emails seeking for guidance towards actualizing their goals. All I can say is take action because until you do, your dreams will remain mere dreams. All the best!

Yes it is. We all have dreams and aspirations but merely dreaming isn’t enough.
